William F. "Bill" Dobbs, Jr., has been a Member of the Firm since 1980, joining the Firm as an associate in 1973. His practice focuses primarily on commercial bankruptcies, and he regularly represents creditors, bankruptcy debtors and creditors committees in the Southern and Northern districts of West Virginia.
Before joining the Firm, he was an academic advisor at West Virginia University where he majored in political science and graduated with highest honors. He also graduated with highest honors from West Virginia University College of Law in 1973, where he was Notes Editor on The West Virginia Law Review and awarded the Order of the Coif.
Mr. Dobbs is admitted to practice before the West Virginia Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia and United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has previously served as Chairman of the Bankruptcy Committee of the West Virginia State Bar and has served on the Local Rules Committee of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
Mr. Dobbs co‑authored the Corporate Law Section of the West Virginia Practice Handbook in 1986 and was the author of "Coal Bankruptcies: Recurring Problems and Pitfalls" for Eastern Mineral Law Foundation Chapter 9, 1983. He has served on the Firm's Executive Committee and has lectured on bankruptcy and commercial law to numerous bar and industry groups.
Since 1989, Mr. Dobbs has been listed in Woodward/White's The Best Lawyers in America® under Bankruptcy Law, when that category was established, and he is AV‑rated by Martindale‑Hubbell.
