Short Takes: DOD Schedules Second Public Meeting on Counterfeit Electronic Parts
March 6, 2014
As previously reported here, DOD published a Proposed Rule on May 13, 2013 on Detection and Avoidance of Counterfeit Parts, partially implementing Section 818 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012. DOD subsequently held a public meeting on June 28, 2013, to discuss the proposed rule, and is preparing to publish a final rule. Meanwhile, DOD is now considering further implementation of Section 818, and is particularly interested in further implementation of Section 818(c)(3), Trusted Suppliers. This provision requires contractors to obtain electronic parts from original manufacturers or other trusted suppliers whenever possible and to undergo inspection and testing when such parts are not obtained from trusted suppliers. DOD therefore has announced a public meeting on March 27, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, EDT, at the GSA Regional Office Building in Washington, DC, to obtain the views of experts and interested parties in the Government and the private sector. Individuals wishing to attend should register by March 20, 2014. Those desiring to make a 10-minute presentation must so state and provide an electronic copy of their presentation no later than March 24, 2013. Click here for more information about the meeting.
