Thomas J. Hurney, Jr., to Speak on the WV Chamber of Commerce Court Watch Panel Aug. 28

Thomas J. Hurney, Jr. will speak on the Court Watch Panel to the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce at its annual Business Summit at the Greenbrier on August 28, 2019. The Court Watch Panel includes Tom and colleagues Marc Williams with Nelson Mullins, Huntington, WV and Anna Dailey with Dinsmore, Charleston, WV. The panel will discuss the changes in the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia as a result of the 2018 impeachment proceedings and the significant opinions of interest to the business community decided during the Court’s 2018-19 term. This is the fifth year the Chamber has featured this popular presentation.
Tom, an avid follower of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, is a frequent state and national speaker on a wide variety of issues including health care, industrial and products liability, as well as trial tactics, the impact of technology on the practice of law and law firm management. A favorite is his talk on the life and career of Lorraine Wall Hurney, his grandmother, who earned her law degree in 1938.
Tom practices in the Charleston, West Virginia office and litigates significant injury, wrongful death and commercial cases and has an active appellate practice. Tom is a past President of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys and Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia and served on the Board of DRI the Voice of the Defense Bar. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Tom graduated with honors from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1983.
