Hopewell Darneille is Counsel in the Public Finance industry group, focusing primarily on litigation, government contracts, government relations, and labor and employment. He practices out of the Firm’s office in Washington, D.C.
Hopewell has specialized in public contract law for more than 30 years. He’s been rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell® for more than 25 years. Although he enjoys litigation and has litigated more than 150 bid protests, Hopewell knows the field of public contracts is more than litigation; it’s about clear communication and developing successful business relationships. Hopewell helps his clients build long-term relationships with contracting entities to promote their continued success. He works with his clients on proactive risk management, compliance, and communication. When problems arise, Hopewell prides himself on finding workable business solutions in a cost-effective, business friendly manner.
Hopewell is comfortable working with the top-level government agencies. His experience includes representing clients before the U.S. Department of Defense and most federal civilian agencies. He enjoys working with small- to medium-size businesses, especially disadvantaged and veteran-owned small businesses, helping them navigate and compete in the government contracts market. A veteran himself, Hopewell was awarded the Bronze Star for his service with the U.S. Army, Military Assistance Command Vietnam, in Binh Dinh Province (II Corps), Vietnam.
Hopewell also is a small business owner; he and his wife operate a 41-acre seasonal rental property in the Lakes Region of western Maine. Hopewell is graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and Yale College, where he majored in American and Asian history. He enjoys tennis and soccer, and was a youth soccer coach while his sons were growing up.
