John McLane is Counsel in the Business Law Practice Group, focusing primarily on energy and renewable resources law. He practices out of the Firm's office in Morgantown, West Virginia.
John has been "all-in" on energy and real property since graduating law school. His experience in these areas of the law is varied and extensive, from working for over 10 years as an in-house title attorney for an oil and gas operator in the Appalachian Basin to serving as associate counsel for a solar energy company and state counsel for a title insurance company.
John’s prior in-house experience also gives him a unique and practical approach to understanding and resolving the various challenges faced by energy companies. He brings a wealth of experience to complex title and real estate related matters, helping his clients navigate legal concerns dealing with title defects, curative and underwriting requirements, newly passed state laws, contracts, solar projects, and more.
John earned a Juris Doctor from West Virginia University College of Law and a Bachelor of Science in physics from Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia.
While his legal work deals with the land, so does his free time. Away from the office he enjoys hiking, skiing and spending time with his family outdoors. John is also an avid West Virginia Mountaineers fan.
